Train-the-Trainer

We Support Trainers

At the top end of the praise we get for our trainings, delegates say things like “That was the best training I’ve ever been on.”  At the ‘Damned with Faint Praise’ end of the spectrum, we sometimes hear “That was far less boring than the training we usually get”.  Being trainers, we’ll take whatever compliments are on offer.

Training often has a bad name within organisations.  Sometimes the function is under-funded with money or time, and sometimes the deliverers have simply never been trained as trainers.  The most common mistake is to assume that your Subject Matter Experts will be great trainers by default.  They’re often the worst, through no fault of their own.

These are some of the topics we would expect to cover on a Trainer-Training:

=

The building blocks of Assertive Communication

=

Getting the training brief right

=

Agreeing objectives with your client (both external and internal)

=

How people learn: everyone has their own preferences

=

Catering for all learning styles and intelligences

=

Understanding the role played by human emotions in the learning process, and in how much we remember

=

Activities and games

=

Avoiding ‘Death by PowerPoint’: exploring many different types of training input

=

The 5-step training methodology: preparation, creating a welcoming environment, the ‘Lesson’ itself, “show me what you’ve learned” and closing your session

=

Using the various tools of the trade

=

Re-designing a course (or segment), using these new methodologies

=

Managing ‘difficult’ delegates
